Mashad rugs originate from the city of Mashad, a major cultural and religious centre in the Middle East. Known for its long history of carpet weaving, the region has developed a distinct style characterised by its immense size and high level of detail, often serving as a symbol of prosperity and artistic expression within the local tradition.

These rugs are celebrated for their use of high-quality Wool, which is often sourced from local breeds known for their resilience and sheen. The construction process is deeply rooted in regional heritage, where the ability to manage complex, large-scale patterns on a loom is considered a hallmark of a master weaver.

The signature design of a Mashad rug typically features a central medallion surrounded by a sea of delicate, flowing floral motifs and scrolling vine patterns. The borders are often equally elaborate, echoing the central theme to create a balanced, harmonious look that draws the eye across the entire surface of the rug.

Collecting a Mashad rug is an opportunity to own a piece of cultural legacy. These rugs are highly valued for their endurance and the complexity of their designs, making them significant additions to any home. They represent a bridge between historical weaving traditions and the modern living space, offering both beauty and a sense of enduring quality.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense skill and dedication from the artisans involved. With a total area of approximately 11.48 m2, the creation of this piece represents hundreds of hours of focused, manual labour to ensure every detail of the elaborate pattern is perfectly placed.

The substantial weight of 48.2 kg is a direct indicator of the density and material volume invested in this rug. This significant weight not only ensures a robust, long-lasting construction but also provides a grounded, stable feel that speaks to the premium nature of its craftsmanship.
