PatchworkHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown176 x 268 cm

Patchwork rugs represent a fascinating evolution in textile history. They originate from the creative practice of repurposing and reassembling high-quality, hand-knotted fragments from older rugs that may have had damaged sections but still held beautiful, intact patterns. By carefully selecting these remnants, artisans give new life to traditional craftsmanship, transforming distinct pieces into a unified, contemporary mosaic.

The beauty of this tradition lies in the deliberate curation of the fragments. Each piece used in the composition often carries the history of its original weave and dye. When brought together, these elements create a complex narrative of design that honours the skill of the original weavers while offering a fresh, modern perspective on Middle Eastern textile arts.

The visual language of these rugs is defined by the interplay of varied motifs and tonal shades. Rather than a single, repeating pattern, the patchwork style relies on the contrast and harmony between different fabric blocks. This creates a rhythmic, geometric flow that draws the eye and provides a sophisticated, artistic element to any room, making each finished rug a singular expression of style.

These rugs are highly valued for their unique character and the sustainable approach they represent. Collectors and homeowners alike appreciate the depth and heritage embedded in every section of the rug. Owning a patchwork piece is a way to celebrate the enduring quality of hand-knotted textiles while participating in a creative tradition that values both history and innovation.

This rug is created through a process of careful selection and artistic assembly. Skilled hands combine various hand-knotted textile fragments to form a cohesive, durable whole. This labour-intensive method ensures that every seam is reinforced and every piece is positioned to create a balanced, lasting composition.

The construction reflects a deep respect for the materials involved. With a weight of 12.3 kg, the rug has a substantial feel, indicating a dense and robust build that sits firmly on the floor. This weight is a testament to the quality of the Wool and the effort invested in sourcing and preparing each segment for the final assembly.

Each step of the creation process is guided by a focus on longevity and aesthetic unity. By repurposing hand-knotted elements, the makers preserve traditional artistry while adapting it for a modern context. The result is a premium piece that combines the strength of its individual components with a modern design sensibility.
