Rooted in the long-standing traditions of the Middle East, this rug carries a sense of place and history. By choosing this piece, you are not just selecting a floor covering, but an artisanal work that balances beauty and function, designed to offer warmth and comfort for many years to come.

The Qashqai rugs originate from the nomadic tribes of the Middle East, a culture defined by its migration across rugged landscapes. These rugs were traditionally created to serve the practical needs of nomadic life, providing essential warmth and insulation in tents while simultaneously acting as a canvas for the tribe's artistic identity.

The term Qashqai refers to the tribal confederation responsible for these vibrant designs. Their work is characterised by the use of high-quality wool sourced from their own flocks, which is then hand-spun and dyed using natural pigments. This self-contained production process results in a rug that is deeply connected to the environment and the heritage of the weavers.

Visually, these rugs are celebrated for their bold geometric language. Central medallions, stepped diamonds, and stylised representations of local flora and fauna are common, often set against deep red or indigo fields. The border treatments are frequently ornate, framing the central field with repeating tribal symbols that tell the story of the weaver's surroundings.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an act of preserving a nomadic legacy. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their authenticity and the skill required to translate complex cultural narratives into woven art. To possess a Qashqai rug is to hold a fragment of a vanishing way of life, celebrated for its durability and its unyielding, honest beauty.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and precision. Skilled artisans spend months working on a single piece, carefully tying each knot by hand to ensure the structural integrity and longevity of the rug. This labour-intensive method results in a dense, resilient pile that far exceeds the quality of mass-produced alternatives.

With a weight of 19.9 kg and a generous size of 307 x 216 cm, this rug demonstrates the substantial amount of high-quality wool used in its creation. The weight is a direct indicator of the density and the exhaustive effort invested by the craftspeople to ensure the rug remains durable and holds its shape over time.

The sharpness of the geometric motifs is a testament to the artisan's skill, achieved through careful tensioning during the knotting process. Every inch of this rug reflects a commitment to quality that is only possible through traditional, manual techniques, resulting in an heirloom-grade piece that is built to last.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
