Kerman rugs, such as this Rawar Sherkat, originate from the historic city of Kerman located in the desert region of the Middle East. This area has been a centre for fine rug production for centuries, celebrated for its access to high-quality materials and a long tradition of highly skilled artisans who have refined their craft over generations.

The term Rawar refers to a specific village near Kerman known for producing some of the finest rugs in the region, often characterised by their superior materials and intricate designs. These rugs are renowned for their use of high-quality wool, which is expertly prepared and knotted to create a pile that is both durable and exceptionally soft to the touch.

Visually, Kerman rugs are distinguished by their ornate, flowing floral patterns and often feature a central medallion surrounded by dense, rhythmic designs. This particular rug follows that classic tradition, utilising a sophisticated colour palette and complex motifs that create a sense of movement and harmony across the entire field.

These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their cultural significance and the level of artistry required to produce them. Owning a piece from this tradition is a way to celebrate a rich history of craftsmanship, where every design choice is a reflection of local heritage and a commitment to preserving an ancient, beautiful art form.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that requires immense skill and patience. By securing each knot individually, artisans create a finished product that is significantly more durable and dense than machine-made alternatives.

The precision involved in this construction is evident in the sharpness of the design and the uniform, tactile quality of the pile. Given its generous dimensions, this rug represents hundreds of hours of dedicated work, ensuring that every detail is executed with the care and attention that only human hands can provide.

With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the rug offers a high level of pattern clarity and a luxurious, substantial feel. This density is the result of thousands of hours of effort, ensuring that the finished piece is not only visually stunning but also structurally sound enough to serve as a long-lasting part of your home.
