Dark red / Black120 x 220 cm

The Sarough rug tradition originates from the village of Sarouk in the central region of the Middle East. Historically, this area has been a centre for weaving excellence, known for producing rugs that are highly regarded for their robust construction and elegant, floral-inspired designs. Over time, these rugs gained international fame for their durability and the deep, rich colours that have become synonymous with the region's output.

The term 'Mir' refers to a specific design lineage often associated with the Sarough style. These rugs are recognised for their repeating motifs, which are frequently arranged in a structured, orderly fashion across the central field. The precision required to maintain these patterns across a large surface is a hallmark of the craft, demonstrating the weaver's ability to balance complex geometry with a harmonious overall aesthetic.

Sarough rugs are defined by their dense, high-quality wool, which is often sourced from local mountain sheep. This wool is prized for its high lanolin content, which gives the finished rug a naturally soft lustre and a resilience that allows it to withstand heavy foot traffic. The traditional borders are often as detailed as the centre, creating a frame that enhances the complexity and depth of the design.

Collectors value these rugs for their combination of artistic beauty and practical longevity. Owning a piece from this tradition is a way to connect with a centuries-old craft that has been preserved and passed down through generations. It represents a commitment to supporting traditional skills and bringing a piece of cultural history into the modern home.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and dedication. By placing each knot individually by hand, the weavers achieve a level of precision and detail that creates a truly durable and high-quality final product. The density of the construction ensures that the rug maintains its shape and beauty over time, standing up well to the demands of everyday use.

With a knot density of 160,000 knots per m2, the craftsmanship involved in this piece is significant. The total knot count for this rug represents months of focused, manual work, showcasing the technical skill required to execute such a complex pattern accurately. This density is a primary indicator of the rug’s quality, as it allows for the fine, sharp definition of the decorative motifs and provides a firm, supportive pile.

The substantial nature of the piece is further evidenced by its weight of 7.9 kg. This weight reflects the generous amount of high-quality materials used in its construction, which contributes to its long-term durability and the luxurious feel of the pile. Every aspect of this rug, from the initial tensioning of the foundation to the final trim, is a testament to the artisan's commitment to creating a lasting object.
