Dark red / Red282 x 353 cm

The Shabargan rug tradition is deeply rooted in the nomadic and village weaving cultures of Northern regions of the Middle East. These rugs often serve as a canvas for the weaver's environment, capturing local life, flora, and fauna through a distinctive visual language. The region has long been a crossroads of cultural exchange, and this history is reflected in the way these rugs blend ancient motifs with the specific creative expressions of individual tribal groups.

Hand-knotted construction is the hallmark of this tradition, where the quality is defined by the strength of the foundation and the density of the Wool pile. This process is far more than a method of assembly; it is a way to preserve a heritage of design that has been passed down through generations. The use of natural materials and traditional dyes ensures that each rug develops a unique character as it ages.

The patterns seen here are typical of the regional style, often featuring geometric and pictorial motifs arranged in rhythmic, orderly rows. These symbols often hold deep cultural meaning, representing elements of the natural world or protection against misfortune. The formal borders serve to frame these designs, creating a balanced and harmonious composition that is highly sought after by those who appreciate traditional artistry.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an act of supporting a vital cultural legacy. These rugs are valued not just for their aesthetic appeal, but for the skill, history, and human effort embedded in every knot. They are considered collector pieces because they represent a living history, offering a connection to the people and places where these craft traditions continue to thrive.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and skill from the artisans involved. Every individual knot is placed by hand, a labour-intensive technique that ensures the rug's longevity and provides a level of detail that remains sharp and clear across the entire surface.

Given the substantial size of this piece and the density of its construction, the completion of this rug represents hundreds of hours of dedicated work. The weight of 31.9 kg is a clear indicator of the generous amount of Wool used in its creation, resulting in a dense, robust pile that stands up to daily life while retaining its luxurious feel.

The precision of this hand-knotted construction is what gives the rug its lasting value. By investing in such a piece, you are supporting a craft tradition where the focus is on quality and durability, ensuring that the rug remains a cherished part of your home for generations.
