Rugs from northern Afghanistan, particularly around regions like Sheberghan, carry a rich legacy of tribal weaving passed down through generations. These communities have spent centuries perfecting the art of translating local stories, symbols, and nomadic traditions into durable floor coverings using materials sourced directly from their surroundings.

The construction techniques rely on traditional hand-knotting methods where individual strands of wool are secured to the cotton foundation by hand. This careful tying method builds a dense and upright pile that resists crushing and maintains its tactile appeal for decades.

Design traditions in this region often feature earthy tones combined with geometric medallions and repeating motifs inspired by everyday surroundings and cultural heritage. The warm beige background of this piece provides a calm canvas for the intricate tribal patterns woven across the surface.

Owning a rug from this tradition means bringing a genuine piece of cultural history into your home. The depth of skill required to create such a balanced and enduring piece connects the modern living space to ancient craft lineages.

Crafted using traditional hand-knotting techniques in Afghanistan, this runner represents a significant investment of human skill and patience. Artisans tie each knot individually by hand, a meticulous process that requires weeks or even months of dedicated work to complete.

With a density of 90,000 knots per m2, the construction contains approximately 143,000 individually tied knots across its entire 201 x 79 cm surface. This high concentration of knots ensures a robust foundation, a tight and upright pile, and exceptional structural longevity.

Weighing 5.4 kg, the substantial build reflects the generous amount of natural material and time invested in its creation. This careful hand construction results in a durable piece designed to last for generations.
