ShabarganHand KnottedRug

Brown / BlackRunner88 x 235 cm

The Shabargan runner draws its influence from the rich, storied traditions of weaving in Afghanistan. This region has long been a crossroads of cultures, where nomadic influences and settled craft traditions have blended over centuries to create a distinct, highly recognisable style of floor covering.

Crafted using traditional methods, these rugs are defined by a commitment to manual skill, where every element is guided by the weaver's hand. This approach ensures that the final product possesses a depth and vitality that modern machine-made alternatives simply cannot match, making it a prized acquisition for those who value authenticity.

The visual language of this piece is characterised by its bold geometric motifs and structured borders. The repetition of these patterns is a hallmark of the region, often drawing inspiration from the natural world and tribal symbols that have been passed down through generations of weavers. The use of a blue field with contrasting red accents provides a sophisticated, classic look that fits beautifully in various home settings.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an act of preserving a heritage of skill and dedication. These rugs are highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike, not just for their aesthetic appeal, but for the tangible connection they offer to the culture and history of their origin. They represent a level of patience and artistry that is increasingly rare in the modern world.

This runner is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to each individual piece. The process begins with setting a sturdy foundation, followed by the careful, knot-by-knot construction that defines the rug’s structure and pattern clarity.

With a density of 90,000 knots per m2, the creation of this 235 x 88 cm runner represents a significant investment of human skill and time. This level of density ensures that the geometric patterns remain sharp and well-defined while contributing to a robust pile that stands up to the demands of a busy household.

The weight of 6.6 kg is a testament to the quality and density of the materials used. This substantial physical presence is the result of thousands of individual hand-tied knots, a labour-intensive approach that ensures the finished runner is not only a decorative highlight but a durable, long-lasting addition to your home.
