Owning this rug means welcoming a piece of Middle Eastern tradition into your home. Its distinct visual language and hearty construction make it a standout choice for those who appreciate authentic, handcrafted items that tell a story of regional skill and heritage.

Shiraz rugs originate from the Fars province in the Middle East, a region with a storied history of nomadic and semi-nomadic weaving traditions. These rugs are deeply connected to the tribal groups of the area, who have passed down their design aesthetics through generations, creating a tradition that is both resilient and adaptable.

The term Shiraz is often used as a collective name for the diverse output of the various tribes in the region, including the Qashqai and Khamseh confederacies. These weavers are known for their ability to create complex, evocative patterns from memory, often drawing inspiration from the natural world and their immediate surroundings.

Signature design elements of these rugs include bold geometric medallions, stylized floral motifs, and repeating patterns that reflect the tribal identity of the creator. The use of deep red and dark blue tones is a hallmark of the style, creating a high-contrast look that is instantly recognisable and highly sought after by collectors.

Acquiring a rug from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage. These pieces are valued not only for their durability but for the unique perspective they offer on Middle Eastern tribal art, providing a tangible connection to a craft that has sustained these communities for centuries.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a traditional process that requires immense patience and precision. By individually tying each knot, the artisan ensures a structural integrity that machine-made alternatives simply cannot match, creating a durable and long-lasting floor covering.

The 10.7 kg of high-quality wool used in this piece demonstrates the density of its construction. This significant weight is a direct result of the intensive labour invested, reflecting the skill required to maintain consistent tension and pattern clarity throughout the entire weaving process.

The time and human effort poured into this rug are evident in every detail. Because of the complexity involved in hand-knotting, this piece represents months of dedication, resulting in a robust and beautifully finished item that is built to endure for generations.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
