Tabriz RoyalHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown122 x 185 cm

The Tabriz rug tradition is named after the historic city in the Middle East, a long-standing centre for trade and artistic development along ancient caravan routes. While the style originated in this region, the craft has travelled and evolved, with India today producing some of the most refined examples that honour these age-old design principles.

Tabriz rugs are celebrated for their sophisticated construction and varied knotting techniques. The term Tabriz itself has become synonymous with a high standard of quality, often featuring intricate patterns and a balanced composition that speaks to a long history of mastery in the textile arts.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their elegant use of space, often centering around a detailed medallion or a field filled with elaborate floral or geometric motifs. The borders are frequently just as ornate, serving to frame the central design and provide a sense of harmony that is characteristic of this esteemed tradition.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an opportunity to connect with a legacy of craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations. These rugs are highly valued for their artistic depth and the patience required to create them, making them not just floor coverings, but meaningful investments in cultural heritage.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense skill and patience from the artisans involved. With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the rug features a total of approximately 360,000 individual knots, ensuring a sharp, clear pattern and a remarkably sturdy structure.

The significant weight of 9 kg for this 185 x 122 cm piece serves as a testament to the density of the Wool and the robustness of the hand-knotted construction. This high material density is a direct result of the effort invested during the weaving process, which contributes to the rug's long-term durability and structural integrity.
