Dark red / Black307 x 384 cm

Turkaman rugs trace their roots back to the nomadic tribes of Central Asia, where weaving was both a practical necessity and a profound cultural expression. Over generations, these distinct design traditions spread across the Middle East, where local artisans refined the techniques while preserving the iconic visual language of their ancestors.

The traditional crafting method relies on hand-knotting individual strands of wool onto a sturdy foundation. This careful construction creates a dense and durable textile designed to withstand daily wear while developing a softer, more inviting feel as it ages gracefully in your home.

Visually, Turkaman rugs are celebrated for their distinctive recurring gul motifs, which are repeating octagonal medallions arranged in orderly rows across the field. Enclosed by structured geometric borders, this particular rug features deep red tones contrasted with dark blue accents, showcasing a striking balance of traditional symbols.

Collecting a rug from this storied tradition means welcoming a piece of living heritage into your home. The exceptional skill required to knot each motif by hand reflects a deep connection to artisanal craftsmanship that mass production simply cannot replicate.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who spend months meticulously tying individual knots onto the foundation. With a knot density of 250,000 knots per m2 across its 384 x 307 cm dimensions, the total creation comprises approximately 2,949,120 individual knots.

The sheer scale of this hand-knotting process requires exceptional precision and hundreds of hours of dedicated human labour. This intensive method creates a remarkably durable foundation and a dense, upright pile that holds its shape and detail for generations.
